Game on: Dale Hawerchuk Park opens with a faceoff

The new Dale Hawerchuk Park officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where Oshawa City Council and the late legend’s family and friends honoured him with a friendly game of street hockey.
In 2020, City Council unanimously approved naming the park in honour of Dale Hawerchuk, a decorated hockey hero who grew up in Oshawa before drawing the attention of Junior and National Hockey League (NHL) scouts.

Free playground program returns to Oshawa parks this summer

Summer playground programs are coming to a neighbourhood park near you starting Tuesday, July 2, in partnership with Their Opportunity. Children aged three to 12 are invited to check out their local park this summer to take part in a fun and free experience. Playground Programs are run by trained leaders who provide interactive and exciting play opportunities such as games, songs and crafts for children daily throughout the summer.

The City of Oshawa announces its lineup of talented artists who will perform this summer as part of the Events in the Park entertainment series presented by TD Bank. Kicking off the summer lineup will be musicians Inka’s Band on Thursday, July 4 at 7 p.m. at Ed Broadbent Waterfront Park (169 Harbour Rd.).

Durham Region’s Blue Box program transitions to producer responsibility

Starting July 1, 2024, Durham’s Blue Box program will transition to being delivered by an organization named, “Circular Materials” on behalf of all producers of the products and packaging recycled in the Blue Box within Ontario. Although the responsibility for the blue box recycling program is changing, there will be no immediate change to how residents recycle during the transition period.
