Canada Day: Fireworks safety and neighbourly reminders

As we prepare to celebrate Canada Day, Oshawa Fire Services reminds community members to keep fire safety and their neighbours in mind when lighting fireworks.
Under the City’s Fireworks By-law, community members must follow the manufacturer’s requirements for the discharge of fireworks, and can discharge Consumer (Family) Fireworks on their private property without a permit between dusk and 11 p.m. on:
- Victoria Day;
- Canada Day; and,
- the celebration known as Diwali Day.

Oshawa properties receive Ontario Heritage Act designation

Oshawa City Council recently recognized three properties in Oshawa as being of cultural heritage value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act:
- Union Cemetery (760 King St. W.)
- The Robert McLaughlin Gallery (72 Queen St.)

Oshawa Fire Services Now Dispatches & Alerts All Durham Region Fire Services

The City of Oshawa and Oshawa Fire Services (OFS) are pleased to announce that OFS has expanded its dispatch/alerting operations to cover the entire Durham Region, following the consolidation of dispatch services with Ajax and Pickering Fire Services.
This consolidation allows Oshawa to serve as the sole municipality dispatching/alerting for the entire regions’ fire services, demonstrating that OFS and the City of Oshawa are leaders in efficiency, innovation and collaboration.

New materials will now be accepted through Durham Region’s Green Bin Program

Starting July 1,The Regional Municipality of Durham will be accepting diapers, menstrual products, incontinence products, pet waste and pet litter in the Green Bin for weekly curbside collection. The enhanced program will continue to use the same style of Green Bins.
