The City of Oshawa and Oshawa Fire Services are thrilled to congratulate Stephen Barkwell on his appointment to Fire Chief, effective August 1, 2023.
Chief Barkwell began his career as a firefighter with Oshawa Fire Services in 1999 and was promoted through the ranks, most recently holding the position of Deputy Fire Chief – Community Risk and Reduction / Professional Development.

The City of Oshawa recently celebrated the completion of park upgrades and a new splash pad at Cordova Valley Park with an official re-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The park redevelopment project was made possible by $975,000 in funding from the Government of Canada’s Canada Community-Building Fund.

City and Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority bring Lifejacket Loaner Program to Oshawa’s beach

The City of Oshawa, in collaboration with the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports), is offering a new Lifejacket Loaner Program at Lakeview Park Beach. Community members are reminded to check the Region’s posted beach closures at Durham.ca/beaches prior to their visit and to follow safe swimming guidelines.
With the Lifejacket Loaner Program, visitors have free access to a wide selection of lifejackets in various sizes and styles (both vest and keyhole designs) while enjoying the beach.

Members of Council were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate a new splash pad at Deer Valley Park and upgrades to the park including new play equipment.
Located at 870 Deer Valley Dr., the 2.03-hectare park is situated off Thornton Road, north of Rossland Road.
