September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
It is a day to learn about and remember the tragic history of the residential school system, and also acknowledge the painful legacy that continues to affect Indigenous peoples in Canada today.
The City of Oshawa is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation and covered under the Williams Treaties.

City of Oshawa delivering the strongest year of building permit activity in its recorded history

The City of Oshawa is pleased to report that our year-to-date building permit activity is well exceeding any year in Oshawa’s recorded history.
Oshawa’s previous annual building permit record was set in 2017 at $614 million. Year to date, the City has shattered this record with $779 million in building permit values for 2022, which is double the pace of 2021.
August 2022 building permit highlights include:

New Multi-Use Path system open on Thornton Road

The City of Oshawa is pleased to announce the expansion of cycling options along Thornton Road North between King Street West and Taunton Road West.
The new multi-use path system connects to the existing Taunton Road West multi-use path which was recently extended from Northbrook Street to Somerville Street connecting with the on-road bike route. Pavement markings and signage have been added along Thornton Road to provide a seamless connection and to ensure drivers are aware of the new path system....
