Statement from Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. I am proud to say that the City of Oshawa, which is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, covered under the Williams Treaties, has also proclaimed September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Oshawa.
We recognize that Oshawa is the present day home of thousands of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples, and the largest number in Durham Region.

New affordable housing community in Oshawa to benefit 50 local families

The City of Oshawa is pleased to see Habitat for Humanity GTA begin construction on a new townhouse project that will bring 50 affordable housing units to our community.
Construction started this summer on the 50-home Habitat community located at 485 Normandy Street (near Dean Avenue) in Oshawa. Families are currently being matched for phase one of the three-bedroom stacked townhouse units expected to be completed in 2022.

Oshawa Animal Services reopens with a purr-fect new space

Members of Oshawa City Council were on hand to celebrate the reopening of Oshawa Animal Services on Tuesday, August 10, which included small group tours of the newly renovated facility.
Located at 919 Farewell Street, the 16,500-square-foot facility has recently seen the addition of the following:
- Cat isolation room for client intake, as well as a cat adoption room
- Dog viewing area, complete with accessible meet and greet rooms

Oshawa observes National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism in Canada

The City of Oshawa with mark the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism on Wednesday, June 23.
