Oshawa properties to receive Ontario Heritage Act designation

Two heritage properties in Oshawa have been recognized by City Council as properties of cultural heritage value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act.
At the April 26 Council meeting, Council advanced the designation of the following properties under the Ontario Heritage Act as properties of cultural heritage value or interest:
- 1600 Conlin Road East
- 2651 Harmony Road North

Camp Samac has been recognized by City Council as a property of cultural heritage value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act. At the April 26 Council meeting, Council unanimously approved the designation of Camp Samac at 1711 Simcoe Street North.

The City of Oshawa has ranked as one of the top communities in Canada, Ontario and Durham in the Maclean’s Best Communities in Canada 2021 report.
Maclean’s gathered data on communities across the country and compared them to find the best communities in Canada across nine categories. Oshawa placed 34th out of 415 as one of the best communities across Canada, and ranked 13th in Ontario. The ranking also revealed Oshawa as the #1 community across Durham Region.

Conference Board predicts a rebound in GDP growth in Oshawa

The Conference Board of Canada is projecting a rebound in GDP growth in the Oshawa Census Metropolitan Area (CMA).
In its Winter 2021 Major City Insights Report, the Board anticipates GDP growth of 5.2 per cent this year and 4.7 per cent in 2022. The report also anticipates that manufacturing output in the Oshawa area will rebound by 8.2 per cent in 2021 and 8.5 per cent in 2022, while construction output will rebound by 6.8 per cent in 2021 and 4.3 per cent in 2022.

Flags lowered to half-mast to honour lives lost in residential fire on Olive Avenue

The City of Oshawa has lowered its flags to half-mast at City Hall and City facilities in memory of the lives lost in the March 22 fire at 149 Olive Avenue in Oshawa.
