Game on: Dale Hawerchuk Park opens with a faceoff

The new Dale Hawerchuk Park officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where Oshawa City Council and the late legend’s family and friends honoured him with a friendly game of street hockey.
In 2020, City Council unanimously approved naming the park in honour of Dale Hawerchuk, a decorated hockey hero who grew up in Oshawa before drawing the attention of Junior and National Hockey League (NHL) scouts.

Oshawa City Council recently recognized three properties in Oshawa as being of cultural heritage value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act:

The City of Oshawa and Oshawa Fire Services (OFS) are pleased to announce that OFS has expanded its dispatch/alerting operations to cover the entire Durham Region, following the consolidation of dispatch services with Ajax and Pickering Fire Services.

Construction underway on Rose Valley Community Park

Construction is well underway on Rose Valley Community Park, located at 1095 Thornton Rd. North, north of Rossland Road and south of Taunton Road.

Oshawa Fire Services has announced Gabriel, a sixth grader from Sir Albert Love Catholic School, as Oshawa’s 2024 Junior Fire Chief.
The Junior Fire Chief contest encouraged Oshawa students in Grades 5 and 6 to submit a video outlining the importance of smoke alarms and home escape planning. Gabriel’s role is to be an ambassador for fire safety in his school, home and community and a positive role model for his peers.
