Message from His Worship Mayor Dan Carter to Business Community Stakeholders, August 2022
It’s summer in the great City of Oshawa and with that comes the return of many amazing events in our community. It’s exciting to see so many families, community members of all ages and visitors enjoying Oshawa events and attractions, including the award-winning Peony Festival weekend and Fiesta Week that both attracted thousands of visitors in June. As we head into August, I would like to highlight three upcoming events in our great city.
Kars on King
Kars on King takes place the evening of Friday, August 26 in downtown Oshawa. We’re encouraging the community to come and enjoy classic cars, entertainment and a family zone. If you have a classic or vintage mint condition 1991 or older car that you would like to showcase at Kars on King, we would love to have you attend. Registration is free. We’re looking forward to seeing you! For more information, visit www.oshawa.ca/KarsonKing.
Doors Open Oshawa
The City is participating once again in Doors Open Ontario, a province-wide celebration that provides a unique opportunity to explore hidden and interesting places and spaces across Ontario!
Join us Saturday, September 24 and explore different heritage and cultural sites in Oshawa – all free of charge! Locations include Camp X, Islamic Centre, Ontario Regiment Museum, Oshawa Museum, Regent Theatre and many more! For details and locations, visit www.oshawa.ca/DoorsOpen.
Post-Secondary Student Orientation Event
As the City and Oshawa City Council look to better connect post-secondary students to our community beyond their physical campus, university and college students arriving in Oshawa this fall will receive a very special warm welcome to our great city with a launch event.
The City’s first-ever Post-Secondary Student Orientation Launch event is coming this fall! This September, the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Oshawa Business Alliance will welcome students from all three of Oshawa’s major post-secondary institutions: Durham College, Ontario Tech University and Trent University Durham GTA. As a city home to a rapidly growing student population of over 25,000, we’re excited to host their academic journey and celebrate their accomplishments over the coming years.
These great events continue to serve our growing community, which is growing in both size and diversity. The Oshawa CMA is one of the fastest growing areas of Canada. In Oshawa, we welcomed approximately 16,000 new residents between 2016 and 2021, a 10% increase in our population.
As we continue to welcome thousands of new community members to our great city, we’re encouraging all to explore our great city and the enriching events, cultural attractions and experiences it has to offer.
As your Mayor, I thank our local businesses for choosing Oshawa. We invite you to reach out to us, whether that be through social media, contacting the Economic Development team ([email protected]; 905-436-5617) or reaching out to me (05-436-3311; [email protected]). We want to hear from you, support you and further advocate for your business.
Yours truly,
Dan Carter
Mayor
