Youth Leadership Training Camps
The City of Oshawa offers youth leadership training camps for individuals aged 12 to 16 during the summer. These camps include the Counsellor in Training (C.I.T) and Leader in Training courses, designed to foster leadership skills in participants.
Counsellor In Training (C.I.T.)
Prepare to be a camp counsellor through our C.I.T. session. The course consists of one week of in-class theory and two weeks of hands on experience at camp locations throughout the City of Oshawa. Youth 14 to 16 years of age have the opportunity to develop skills in:
- program planning
- leadership techniques
- behaviour management
- resume preparation
- interviews
Leader In Training
Participants 12 to 14 years of age can gain various leadership skills in a fun and exciting recreation environment. The course consists of in-class theory and lessons, as well as a chance to use skills learned in a camp atmosphere. Develop skills in:
- program planning
- child/group management
- leadership techniques
- games/activities
- planning
- communication skills
Camp registration
Register for a youth leadership training camp online at activeOshawa Online or in person at a City recreation facility.
Registrants must submit the necessary camp forms before attending their first day at a youth leadership camp. Find the relevant forms on our Summer Camps page.
Cancellations
If we do not have enough registrants for a program, it will be cancelled. If a youth leadership training camp is cancelled, you will be contacted to choose a different program (if space is available) or receive a full refund.
Waitlists
If your preferred camp is full, join the waitlist at no additional charge. If a spot opens up, our team will contact individuals on the waitlist based on the sign up order.
Refunds
To withdraw from a youth leadership training camp, submit a Refund Request Form.
Participants will receive a full refund when:
- The City of Oshawa cancels the camp before the program start date.
- The participant withdraws from the camp and submits a refund request form seven or more days before the program starts.
Participants will receive a partial refund when:
- The participant withdraws from the camp and submits a refund request form less than seven days before the start date and before the start of the second class. Refunds are subject to an $12 administration fee. Partial refunds are pro-rated based on the number of classes remaining at the time of the refund.
Refund requests will not be accepted after the start of the second class unless for a medical reason. In the case of a medical reason, a doctor's note must be submitted when the Refund Request Form is received.
