Neighbourhood speed pilot program
The City has introduced new reduced speed limits within select neighbourhoods. These reduced neighbourhood area speed limits will help improve road safety by reducing speed limits that are typically a maximum of 50 km/h down to 40 km/h for an entire neighbourhood. New "40 km/h Area" signage will be installed at entrances and exits to all neighbourhoods which will indicated where the neighbourhood area speed limits are in effect.

The 40 km/h area pilot program was an approved recommendation from the City’s new Neighbourhood Traffic Management Guide, which was updated in 2022 in a process involving two phases of public consultations.
Following the pilot program, City staff will report their findings and make recommendations for a program regarding future 40 km/areas throughout Oshawa.
