Commissioner of Oaths
Service Oshawa offers Commissioner of Oaths services for documents such as affidavits and statutory declarations.
A Commissioner of Oaths is not the same as a Notary Public. If your document requires the signature of a Notary Public or you require certified true copies of a document, then you will need to contact a private lawyer or a Notary Public, as the City does not provide these services. Please refer to the yellow pages for a list of Notaries Public and lawyers who can notarize documents.
Requirements
The person(s) taking the oath (swearing that the contents of the document are true) must:
- Sign the document in the presence of the Commissioner
- Present an original piece of government issued photo identification - e.g., a valid driver's licence, passport, etc. (copies are not accepted)
- The document must be complete before signing - no information can be added after the Commissioner has signed and stamped the document
Fee
$25 (with tax $28.25) for the first three documents
$5 (with tax $5.65) for each additional document
Payable by cash, debit, cheque, Visa, MasterCard or American Express
