Operations Services
Operations Services maintain the City's infrastructure of roads, sidewalks, parks, trails, trees, playgrounds, underground assets and fleet.
Operations Services operates from the Consolidated Operations Depot and provides:
Fleet Services
- Purchases and repairs City vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and reliability
Waste and Environmental Programs
- Responsible for residential waste collection services in coordination with the Region of Durham. The City administers the collection of organics (green bin) and yard waste and garbage.
- Environmental initiatives include anti-idling, assistance with pitch-in programs, use of bio diesel, anti-littering programs and others that improve air quality, reduce waste and improve our quality of life.
Road Operations
- Inspects and maintains City roads, sidewalks, stormwater sewer systems and municipal infrastructure, including street sweeping, pothole repair, shoulder and boulevard maintenance, sidewalk maintenance, catch basin cleaning, creek and storm pond maintenance, litter, signage, road closures and winter control operations.
- Delivers winter control operations, including monitoring roads and weather, salting and plowing City roads, sidewalks and windrow clearing for seniors and people with disabilities.
Parks Operations
Implements the planning, design, construction, maintenance, improvement and operation of the City's parks facilities, playgrounds, trail system, natural areas and wetlands such as the Second Marsh and Pumphouse Marsh.
- Provides City beautification projects and gardens, street planters and hanging baskets, street trees, forestry and horticulture programs, cemetery services, community engagement and volunteer programs.
