City of Oshawa deploys new green vehicle fleet
The City of Oshawa is pleased to announce it has introduced its first seven fully electric vehicles to its fleet. These vehicles are 100 percent battery powered.
The seven new 2023 Chevrolet Bolt vehicles have been deployed in the community; four will be used by the City’s municipal licensing enforcement officers and three will be used by the City’s building inspectors.
The City’s new green fleet will lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and will translate to overall savings for the City with lower operating and maintenance costs.
The new fleet was purchased locally from Ontario Motor Sales (OMS), which is celebrating its 100-year anniversary in Oshawa.
In addition to our first green fleet of fully electric vehicles, the City has an additional 10 hybrid vehicles used by municipal law enforcement and recently installed 16 (14 public facing) EV charging stations at its facilities. Another four fully electric vehicles have been ordered.
The green fleet and EV charging stations support the City’s 2024-2028 Corporate Energy Management Plan and Council-adopted vision statement that “energy management will be considered a priority in all corporate asset management activities, including capital, operations and maintenance decisions; and financial management and procurement decisions.” For more information, visit Oshawa.ca/EnergyPlan.
