City seeks feedback on new, Downtown public sculpture
The City of Oshawa invites residents and business owners to a public art Open House on June 12at 7 p.m. at the Arts Resource Centre, located at 45 Queen Street. During the Open House, community members will have the opportunity to learn more about the City’s Public Art Master Plan and provide input related to the forthcoming Downtown Oshawa Urban Square public artwork. Join us to share your vision and learn more about public art in Oshawa!
The Urban Square and its artwork reflect the City’s commitment and desire to connect and engage with the community, as well as transform the spaces where we live, work, learn and play into vibrant, inviting and meaningful public spaces. This project marks the City’s first independent sculpture commission, signifying a significant step toward enhancing the creative fabric of the downtown. The artwork is being commissioned as part of the city’s centennial celebrations.
The City recognizes that supporting arts and culture is essential in building a vibrant and creative city. Through the implementation of the Public Art Master Plan, the City of Oshawa provides active leadership and guidance in fostering a strong visual legacy through the creation and inclusion of art in its public buildings and spaces in order to create vibrant public spaces and meaningful connections. The Downtown Oshawa Urban Square, located at the intersection of Bond Street East and Simcoe Street North in the heart of downtown Oshawa, will be a unique focal point of downtown Oshawa, hosting community celebrations and events that appeal to both community members and visitors, bringing vitality and excitement into the downtown core.
This year, the City is celebrating its 100th anniversary as a city.
