E-bike and E-scooter Reminders
As we welcome two new ride-sharing providers to our city for a micro-mobility pilot project, community members are reminded to be courteous and follow these rules for safety when using an e-bike or e-scooter in Oshawa:
Users are reminded that:
- Riders must be 16 or older to use an e-bike or e-scooter.
- Helmets are mandatory for riders under 18 years old and encouraged for all riders.
- Travel should be at a safe speed based on the condition of the trail;
- The maximum speed limit is 20 km/hr.
- Caution must be exercised around pedestrians.
- Riders must dismount when crossing streets and in underpasses.
- Riders must give warning before passing by using a bell or through verbal indication.
- Riders must park in a secure, upright position in a designated cycling or e-scooter parking location.
For the safety of pedestrians, e-bikes and e-scooters are not allowed on sidewalks. When travelling along roadways and streets, including bike lanes, e-bike and e-scooter users are to follow the same rules of the road that apply to cyclists. For more information on safe cycling, visit the Ministry of Transportation’s webpage.
How to report a concern
Sidewalk riding, parking and other concerns related to privately-owned e-bikes and e-scooters should be reported to Service Oshawa. For more information on e-bikes and e-scooters, visit Oshawa.ca/emobility.
Concerns related to ride sharing devices should be reported directly to the ride sharing vendors (refer to contact details on the City’s website).
