Florell Park features a new playground and accessible amenities
Members of Council and neighbourhood residents celebrated the completion of the Florell Park redevelopment project at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 19.
The park redevelopment project focused on accessibility and access for all abilities and ages. The project included the addition of accessible park pathways and an accessible walking loop that comply with Oshawa Accessibility Design Standards and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act standards. There are accessible benches, and accessible play features include an accessible ramp on the play structure, a wheelchair rocker and a swing with an accessible seat. The redevelopment also included new bike rings, new site furnishings and plantings of trees and shrubs.
Located at 960 Florell Drive (off Olive Avenue, east of Harmony Road South), the 5.14 hectare neighbourhood park features a new playground structure for children ages 2-12 on wood fibre safety surfacing and includes slides, a swing set and ground play elements.
Community engagement was undertaken in fall 2021 on preferred playground equipment and accessibility components for the Florell Park redevelopment project. Construction began in June 2022 and was completed by end of 2022.
