Winter waste reminders
As the seasons change, Oshawa residents are reminded that winter weather can make it difficult for waste collection operators to see and safely reach your garbage, green bin and recycling.
Please keep these reminders in mind when placing waste at the curb:
- Respect and maintain physical distancing of 6 feet (2 metres) with our waste collection staff and please do not approach waste collection vehicles.
- Place waste at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. the day of collection on clear portions of your driveway.
- Choose and maintain a collection area that is visible and at ground level.
- Do not place collectables on top of snow banks or on the roadway.
- Keep a path from the road to your collectibles clear of snow and ice.
- Ensure green bins, blue boxes and waste collectibles are visible.
- Ensure all waste and green bin material is tied and secured in a bag. Loose materials will not be collected.
During and after a snow event, please follow these additional reminders:
- Avoid placing materials at the curb the night before when it is harder for plow operators to see green and blue box bins and waste.
- To reduce the height of snow banks, shovel snow further back on your property to improve visibility.
Check your waste collection calendar for more information, visit our Waste webpage, or download the “Durham Region Waste” app.
