Celebrating a legacy of excellence: honouring the legendary Oshawa Tony’s
The notable Oshawa Tony’s Fastball Team has been honoured with a commemorative plaque at Alexandra Park, with more than 100 guests in attendance for the unveiling ceremony. The Tony’s plaque serves as a visible celebration of the team’s history, achievements and the joy they brought to the City of Oshawa for 11 years.
The team accumulated a lengthy list of accomplishments between 1968 and 1978, including winning a national championship in British Columbia in 1974. Among many other successes, the Tony’s hosted the Nationals in 1975, winning silver; and the team travelled to Phoenix, Arizona in 1977 for the International Softball Congress World Championship.
The Tony’s played their home games at Alexandra Park in Oshawa, where the average audience was between 700 and 800 fans with the highest attendance being 2,500. As one of the most successful fastball teams in Ontario sport history, the Tony’s were inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
