Fenelon/Venus Park features a new playground and accessible amenities
The City of Oshawa is pleased to announce the official reopening of Fenelon/Venus Park, a neighbourhood park featuring new playground equipment and accessible features. The park redevelopment project was made possible by $240,000 in funding from the Government of Canada’s Canada Community-Building Fund.
Members of Council and neighbourhood residents were joined by Ryan Turnbull, Member of Parliament for Whitby, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 29 to officially celebrate the completion of the Fenelon/Venus redevelopment project.
The one-hectare park is situated between Fenelon Crescent and Venus Crescent, just east of Park Road between Wentworth Street and Phillip Murray Avenue. The park features new junior and senior play equipment, as well as accessible swings, a basketball court, additional seating and an accessible park pathway connecting the park to both crescents. Additionally, tree plantings and naturalized areas extend through the edges of the park providing both shade and habitat.
The total cost of the redevelopment project was $335,000, with $240,000 in funding provided by the Government of Canada. The project included the replacement of the existing play equipment and surfacing, enhanced seating amenities, improved access, and increased areas of planting and naturalization.
Community engagement was undertaken in early 2021 on the proposed park concept. Construction started in June 2022 and was completed in December 2022.
