Ministry of Transportation to replace underpass structures along Highway 401
The Ministry of Transportation (M.T.O.) has retained Brennan Paving and Construction Ltd. (B.P.C.L.) to replace the Simcoe St. S. and Albert St. underpass structures along Highway 401 in Oshawa.
Construction has begun and will be phased over five stages during the 2023/2024 construction seasons. The anticipated completion date of all construction works is November 2024.
The construction areas include:
- Lviv Blvd.: From Simcoe St. S. to Front St.
- Simcoe St. S.: Starting 100m North of Lviv Blvd. to the Bloor St. intersection
- Albert St.: From 30m North of Lviv Blvd. to 30m north of Bloor St.
- Highway 401: 300m west of Simcoe St. S. to Drew St., including the westbound on-ramp via Simcoe St. S., and the on and off-ramps via Drew St.
The scope of work for the construction includes but is not limited to:
- Replacement of Simcoe St. S. and Albert St. bridge structures over Highway 401
- Shoulder widening and resurfacing of Highway 401
- Construction of the Lviv Blvd. cul-de-sac
- Installation of new storm sewers and watermains
- Reconstruction of the Lviv Blvd. and Albert St. intersection
- Reconstruction of the Bloor St. and Simcoe St. S. intersection
- Re-alignment of the Michael Starr Trail multi-use pathway
During the construction, the following closures are planned:
- Highway 401 eastbound and westbound lanes (including the on-ramp via Drew St.) from Simcoe St. S. to Drew St. (during nights and weekends only)
- Lviv Blvd. at Simcoe St. S.
- Albert St. from Lviv Blvd. to Bloor St.
These closures are not concurrent and will be implemented during various project stages. For the duration of the project, M.T.O. has committed to notifying the public in advance of all roadway closures using variable message boards and appropriate signage.
