New off-leash area opens at Cordova Valley Park
Members of Council, neighbourhood residents and local dog owners celebrated the completion of the Off-Leash Area at Cordova Valley Park at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 25.
The Cordova Valley Park Off-Leash Area was specifically designed to provide off-leash opportunities for pet owners and their dogs to enjoy naturalized areas.
Located at 811 Glen St., the half-hectare neighbourhood dog park features a mix of mulch and grass surfacing and a fully-enclosed fenced area with a separate enclosed area for small or vulnerable dogs. A double-gated entry corral allows pet owners to safely leash and unleash their dogs upon entry and exit.
The project also included the addition of accessible parking spaces and a connecting pathway; the planting of mature trees to create shade; and rest areas and seating.
Cordova Valley Park is home to Oshawa’s second off-leash area with the first off-leash area opening in 2017 at Harmony Valley Park. In 2018, the City launched a public consultation on a second off-leash location with Cordova Valley Park identified as the preferred site. Construction began in 2022 and was completed in January 2023.
