Oshawa 100+ kick offs; view the video and join upcoming celebration events
The City of Oshawa marked its 100th anniversary as a city on March 8 and kicked off a year of celebrations. We invite community members to view the video of the March 8 official celebration and join us throughout the year as we celebrate our historical milestone with a series of events, activities and commemorative projects.
Official 100+ Anniversary Celebration
Festivities kicked off on Friday, March 8 with the Official 100+ Anniversary Celebration live broadcast on Rogers Television; Free Leisure Swims and Skates at various City facilities; and a Commemorative Flag Raising at Oshawa City Hall.
Missed the live broadcast? View it on our YouTube channel or on our website at Oshawa.ca/100. Emceed by Mayor Dan Carter, the event included formal remarks, highlights of Oshawa’s rich history and engaging performances from local arts and culture organizations.

Public Displays
Oshawa’s rich heritage of 100+ years is being illustrated with public displays, including temporary public art, banners, an anniversary celebration sign and more!
Community members and visitors will notice throughout the year:
- A series of banners depicting moments and landmarks of Oshawa’s vibrant history on display in Lakeview Park and downtown Oshawa
- Temporary public art on display in downtown Oshawa on the windows of the Mary Street Garage (corner of Bond and Mary Streets). The artworks were created by Fine Arts students from Durham College as part of a TeachingCity project
- 100 Anniversary backlit sign on display at City Hall (Centre and Athol Streets) designed and built in-house by City staff from our Operations team
- Centennial-themed flower beds, designed by City staff using the colour purple, which will soon be in bloom in four locations (City Hall, Delpark Homes Centre, King and Bond Streets, and Ritson and Rossland Streets)
