Oshawa’s college and universities earn top marks in research and innovation
The City of Oshawa is proud to congratulate its post-secondary partners Durham College, Ontario Tech University and Trent University Durham GTA for being ranked among Canada’s top research universities and colleges in 2022.
Research Infosource (RI), Canada’s premier research ranking organization and leading provider of research intelligence for business and higher education, gathers and compares data on universities, colleges and other research organizations across the country.
According to its annual Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities and Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges ranking, 2022 highlights for Oshawa’s post-secondary institutions include:
Durham College
- Named one of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges for the ninth time.
- No. 1 among medium-sized colleges in the percentage of social science funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada over a three-year period.
- No. 2 among medium-sized colleges for the number of paid student researchers.
Ontario Tech
- No. 2 in Canada (up one place from last year) and retained its No. 1 ranking in Ontario among Canada’s 21 smaller research universities.
- No. 3 in Canada among smaller universities for corporate research income ($5.465 million).
- No. 3 in Canada among smaller universities for corporate research as a percentage of total research income (25.8%).
Trent University
- Ranked in the top 10 undergraduate universities in all of Canada in the five-year National Research Granting Council Income Performance spotlight.
- No. 7 in Canada (No. 3 in Ontario) for Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council research income as a percentage of total university research income.
- Showcased in the Winner’s Circle for top undergraduate universities in Canada in two categories: No. 2 in Canada (No. 2 in Ontario) for Natural Science and Engineering Council research income as a percentage of total income; and No. 5 in Canada (No. 2 in Ontario) for Canadian Foundation for Innovation research income as a percentage of total income.
