Peony Festival Volunteer, Judi Denny, wins FEO Volunteer of the Year Award
In honour of Volunteer Recognition Month, the City of Oshawa would like to extend its congratulations to one of its long-standing volunteers, Judi Denny. On February 28, 2024, Judi was honoured at the Festival and Events Ontario (FEO) Awards ceremony, where she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Judi has been one of the driving forces behind the Peony Festival since it was established in 2004. Together with her late husband, Michael, the Dennys donated many of the peonies that can be found in the Oshawa Valley Botanical Garden (OVBG) peony collection. Without the Denny family’s generous contribution, the peony garden at the OVBG would not exist and the award-winning Peony Festival would not be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024. Judi continues to oversee all aspects of the judged peony show during the festival, from coordinating the judging to providing expert advice. As a long-standing member of the Canadian Peony Society, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a contagious passion for peonies.
We are incredibly fortunate to work with Judi each year, and we thank her for her invaluable contributions to the Peony Festival. Her hard work and dedication have played a critical role in its success. Congratulations, Judi, on this well-deserved recognition as Volunteer of the Year.
